Ukoo Flani Initiative
Ukoo Flani is a renowned Kenyan hip-hop collective that emerged in the early 1996. The group’s name is an acronym for “Upendo Kote Olewenu Ombeni Funzo La Aliyetuumba Njia Iwepo,” which translates to “Love everywhere for all who seek the teachings of the creator; there is a way.” They are celebrated for popularising Sheng, a slang language blending Swahili, English, and local dialects, in Kenyan hip-hop.
Introduction
For over two decades, Ukoo Flani has carried the heartbeat of Kenyan hip-hop — raw, poetic, and unfiltered. They were the voice that turned street experiences into art and art into identity. From the corners of Mombasa to the neighbourhoods of Nairobi, their verses painted real stories — of youth, survival, and hope.
Now, after years of silence and growth, Ukoo Flani rises again. This time not as young dreamers — but as men who have lived, evolved, and refined their message.
